takes place in harrys forth year

The girl quietly sat in the corner of the library, her eyes drifting over the edge of the books she had smashed against her face. The midnight blue pupils scanned the library watching boys and girls giggle and blushing at eachother. 'The bloody ball...' angie though rolling her eyes. What was a ball anyway? a chaotic evening for raging hormones to go out of control. Still...it did sound like fun to dance the night away.

Most of the students at hogwarts raced around the school asking right and left for dates..she was sure all the good ones would be taken..espeically Malfoy. She sighed at the thought and continued reading. There was still Jack of course but he would want to turn the whole night into a snog fest. Also tons of girls had probably already asked the boy..which he reluctanty turned down hoping angie would change her mind about the ball. he didnt want to get shot down like the rest of the boys that asked her. 'maybe alittle bit longer..'

Well, most boys and girls were giggling. One in particular refused to acknowledge the existence of anyone but himself and the fantasy land he was wandering through. With the book layed out across the table and his head resting in one hand, all that moved were his eyes, ceaselessly and unblinkingly moving back and forth across the faded white pages of some forgotten story.

Muttering something, he slips his glasses off and rubs his eyes, blinking them several times. As much as he enjoyed reading, he was starting to wonder if staring at the never ending letter streams was good for his eyes or not. His eyes wandered slowly around the room, and he raises an eyebrow. "Why is everyone so excited about this ball..."
"Because its not very often when hogwarts has one.."

Angies eyes trailed away from the whispering crowds to the boy who sat across from her. She rarely talked to anyone but her friends and house members..but this ravenclaw would have to suffice for now. "Oh sorry were you talking to me?" Honestly she didnt care if he was or not, she needed to talk to someone than herself..to make it less akward.

Trislian's eyes narrow slightly as he studies her for a split second. Slytherin, probably fourth year. She looked vaguely familiar. Of course, he didn't know her. Therefor, she was a stranger...the worst kind of thing he ever ran in to. Conversation was hardly his strong point.

"Er...well, not really. Just...talking to myself, I suppose. I honestly don't think much of the ball. Seems...almost silly. Though I've heard they can be fun..." His voice trails off and he looks away from her. "You going?"
She hid a smile behind her book. Such a silly Ravenclaw. She was sure he knew who she was, if he didnt well that just put him in the category of outsider.

Her head perked up as she lowered her book so her face wasnt hidden anymore. "I was asked a few times..but I'm jsut waiting for the right sort of person."

She didnt ask the same question to him. She wasnt rude but by his words she could tell he didnt think of balls as fondly as the other students.
"You might want to seek them out then. Most of the students have already been asked. And of course, most of them said yes. They're...excited easily." He shrugs, clearly the outsider to most of the social events. "I'm sure it would be fun, if you found the right person that is."

"Of course, if you don't go...you could always get a head on exams," He said with a slight smirk. He'd already picked out 4 books to take away and spend the quiet night studying. "After all, going to such events isn't any fun by yourself."

Trislian's face visibly pales to the extreme, and he freezes in midstep. Slowly, his gaze turnt towards Angie then quickly snapped back to Malfoy. Oh, he was a clever one. To clever. The final blow seemed to have sunk in. Trislian couldn't think of a smoothy and easy way out of this one. Can't please everyone, after all.

"Now...Malfoy, that is hardly a fair assesment." He did not dare look at Angie, "Ms. Snowemrald is plenty attractive, far more than many of the other girls her age. But you would be far better company for her than I would. I am indeed a bookworm and hardly the experience converser that you have proven yourself to be. Surely you wouldn't put Ms. Snowemrald through the trouble of my less than adequate company, would you?"

That did it. Draco had won. He'd been reduced to demeaning himself in both actions and words. This had happened before but not on such a grand scale. Draco would never let him live this down. Trisilian felt doomed to failure more and more with each passing second.
Draco beamed with delight. Once again he succeeded with bringing another students ego and infront of a fellow Slytherin girl in fact. Of course he would never let Asay forget this little meeting. "Why..Asay..this must really be quite..depressing for you." Now that Draco won, he would rub it in as much as possible till he sufficated the poor boy
Trisilian eyes drifted toward Angie and lingered there for just a moment before returning to Draco's triumphant gaze. "Truth is more depressing than fiction. I suppose that's one thing I should know, hmm? Life goes on anyway." He shrugged noncommitally, the sense of defeat weighing heavily on him.
Angie blinked for a few moments. So there really was students here who were just depressing; ugh she hated it. A disgusted look sat upon her face. Now she couldnt even stand the sight of him..the least he could of done was fight back somehow..how simple the boys mind was.

"Exactly Asay..finailly something about life is sticking into your head beside charms and spells. Shame it had to be this way." He loved how he played with words to pull this character now even more.
"Well...some of us are certainly more adapted to such things than others." Trislian's defeat was gnawing at him now. He was angry at himself and this blonde haired word crafter. It disgusted him. Cowering Asay he'd always been. Perhaps if he fought back. "Your speciality seems to be in the tongue. I think, however, I might have you beat in the spell department. Luck of the draw I'm sure." Dangerous waters with no bottom and to deep to turn back now. If he didn't stand up once he'd never do it at all. What could be worse than self humiliation anyway...
For once since their encounter the smirk was gone from dracos face. He stared at Asay with daggers in his own icey eyes. "Well..." He began..danger now made itself known in his voice. "If you really think you can beat me enchantments..how about a duel?" Draco was just trying to scare him with threathing words now, he wasnt sure if this trislian was as good as he claims he was at knowing spells..but would he be up for a duel? he maybe be good with spells..but the timing?

Angie now knew both were on ice. She sense how tense draco was now and how trislians confidence started to rise. "I dont believe it would be nessesary..."
"A duel would indeed be interesting, but the library is hardly the place. A single spell gone wrong and you could topple an entire bookshelf on to yourself. After that broken arm last year, I'm pretty sure you wouldn't want that to happen, hmm? Your father certainly wouldn't be happy."

Trislian felt Draco's tension and he enjoyed putting the other on the defensive. For a long time he'd be chewed up by Malfoy but now he was going to bite back. Not like he had anything to lose anyway. It came to his mind that in all the books he'd read, no one had backed down like he did. Perhaps it wasnsn't just a far away fairy tale. Of course, Draco had the capacity to strike him down no matter what happened. It seemd worth the risk. Like he said, he didn't have a thing to lose anymore.
Oh snap. Trislian hit the bone so to say in Draco. How dare he bring his father into this? Malice sparkled in his eyes at this point. "Well no idiot would duel in a library you halfwit. we shall schedule it..lets say...the night before this ball? That way you would have an excuse not to go to the ball.." Dracos words were heavy with venom, it was as plain as day.

"really I do believe this is going a bit too far..." Angie knew she really had no say in this anymore, but before they started to make themselves known by shouting insults at eachother in the library of all places she had to put some sort of stop to it.

"Well what good is that gonna do cause if your clearly up against three...oopies.." She covered her mouth in hesitation eyeing him cautiously.
"Yes, there is that little matter." Trisilian sighs and his shoulders slump, confident seeming to ebb away at him slowly. "Why you care I still do not understand. He's not going with you, and you seem to blame it on me, yet you want me to back out of the duel? What do you have to gain by showing up with me anyway?"

Trisilian knew perfectly well his family was well respected and honored within the wizarding community, but this was his last defense. He didn't know how to get out of this stiuation.
She raised her eyebrow for a moment, studing his words through her head. No wonder the boy was in Ravenclaw..he thought things out..but not everything..he asked too many questions.."That i came out on the winning side..dont you see we have two battles going on..even if mine doesnt concern your mind. If you show up with me..that..pansy..will look bad because her date will be stuck here all alone. See?" Clearly it was confusing, she hoped he wouldnt linger on it.
Trisilian mutters something and turns to face her slowly, half glaring, half defeated look. He studies her face for a moment, then looks away, carefully mulling over the options. Devious, underhanded, but reasonable. It appealed to his pratical side, but it irked him to play so dirty when he knew chancfes were with him to defeat Malfoy...one on one, perhaps.

"I'll go with you to the Ball," He turns around suddenly and looks up in the tree. "Tye, when Malfoy gets here, leave him a present, would you?" A caw came from in the branches.

He turns back to her slowly. "Alright...let's go."
With a confused sort of look she eyed the tree...strange...he brang his pet bird as his second defender. Shrugging a satisfied smirk crossed her face. "Now isnt that better..jsut imagine their faces."
"They would have been better had I stayed." Trislian slips his wand in to the folds of his robe and walks past here, heading back in to the castle. "We'll be late...Ms. Snowemrald."

It had been a week after the...interesting ball, and Trisilian hadn't seen a sign of Angie, Malfoy, or even those two idiot henchmen. He smirked at the thought of them reeling over the humiliation, and settled against one of the few trees between the castle and the forest. He was reading one of Prof. Flitwick's books on advanced charms. Being the top of the class had its advantages. Teacher's pet names meant nothing compared to leveling hte competition. Trisilian, not the cocky one, felt he was better than Granger in some of these subjects. And now he had a whole afternoon to relax ...
"I see you finially decided to stick your nose back where it belongs." A rather annoyed tone of voice said from behind the other side of the tree. A glint of red flickered through her eyes as she looked behind her to see her newest enemy.
Trisilian sighs and glances up from his book, "You brought it upon yourself," he said simply. "Had you not gone and gotten him, you wouldn't have been embaressed." His eyes narrow, "Had you let me duel, he might have won and you could have enjoyed the night. I'm not as ruthless as Malfoy is, so if I had one, he'd still be able to walk." A thread of anger runs through his voice, "So I'd suggest letting it go, because you can't do any more harm than you already have."
Oh really...i dont think so mr Asay." She said taking out her wand and pointing it straight at the side of his throat. "Nobody..dares to embrass me, not even you." She pointed deeper into his throat. They were far away from any snooping younger years or professors so that came to Angies advantage. He clearly didnt know where her family line tranced back to, and the hint of power clearly flowed through the familys veins.
Trisilian's hand flashes and his wand is out in an instant, pressed against hers. "I can't garuntee your safety if you attack, Ms. Snowemrald. I may not be as clever as you are, or as popular as Malfoy is, but I know for a fact I know more spells than anyone at our grade do. We can be civil, or one of us is going to the hospital wing." He glares right back at her.
She eyed down at his wand agaisnt her own throat. By the look of her face she seemed to be far from sane. She did not back down from his words but simply starred at him straight in the face with that same glint of red in her eyes. "Well that cettainly wont be me..you see you may know alot of spells..but do you know this one?She smiled and whispered in his ear. "crucio."
